YOUR CLIPBOARD, EXPLAINED
Privacy policy
Your clipboard history belongs on your Mac.
Last updated: October 2, 2026
ClipZen does not send your clipboard history to its developer. The current app has no account, cloud sync, advertising, or analytics service.
This policy describes the current ClipZen macOS application and this website. ClipZen is developed by Rohit Ranjan. For privacy questions, email 91.rranjan@gmail.com.
What the app reads and stores
While capture is enabled, ClipZen checks the macOS clipboard for changes. It can store copied text, plain-text representations of rich text, links, images, and file references. History may include the source application's identifier, timestamps, pins, and collection assignments. Collection names, preferences, file-access bookmarks, and a locally generated device identifier are also kept on your Mac.
This data is used to show, search, organize, preview, transform, and reuse your clips. A file reference is not a backup of the original file. Clipboard content can contain personal or sensitive information; ClipZen cannot reliably identify every sensitive item.
Where your history lives
History is stored in a local SQLCipher-encrypted database. Its encryption key is generated on your Mac and stored in the app's private Keychain group. Large image assets are encrypted separately with AES-256-GCM, with their keys stored in the encrypted database. Preferences are stored locally in macOS preferences.
The current app has no network service or cloud sync and does not transmit clipboard content to the developer or an analytics or advertising provider. It does not sell clipboard data or use it for advertising. Local encryption protects stored history; it does not make text you paste into another app private from that app.
Your capture controls
You can pause capture, quit ClipZen, or exclude applications in Privacy preferences. Several common password managers are excluded by default. App exclusions depend on the foreground app observed at capture time; they are not a guarantee that all passwords or sensitive content will be skipped. Adding an exclusion does not remove previously saved clips.
Permissions
Clipboard capture and the global shortcut do not require Accessibility permission. Automatic paste uses macOS event-posting permission, shown in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. Without it, ClipZen copies your selected clip and you paste manually. You can revoke that permission in System Settings at any time.
File features use access to files you select or authorize through macOS. Export writes only to a location you choose in the Save dialog. ClipZen uses the macOS sandbox.
Retention and deletion
ClipZen keeps history locally until you delete it or its configured history limit removes older unpinned entries outside collections. The default limit is 1,000 clips and can be adjusted in preferences. Pinned clips and clips assigned to collections are preserved by retention and by Clear History.
You can delete individual clips or clear unpinned history outside collections. To remove all saved clipboard content, also delete pinned clips and clips within collections. Delete collections separately if you want to remove their names. Deleting a collection does not delete its clips. Pausing capture stops new items from being saved; it does not erase existing history.
Deleting history does not erase content already pasted into other apps, exported files, the current system clipboard, or copies in backups you manage. The developer cannot remotely access or delete your local history.
Exports and pasting
If you export history, ClipZen creates an unencrypted JSON file at the location you select. It contains stored clips and collections, including embedded images and file references. Encryption keys, macOS file-access bookmarks, and internal device/sync metadata are excluded.
Anyone with access to that export may be able to read its contents. You control where it is saved, whether it is shared or backed up, and when it is deleted. Selecting a folder managed by a cloud service may cause that service to upload the file. Pasting or copying a clip makes it available through the system clipboard and, when pasted, to the destination app under that app's own privacy practices.
Support messages
If you contact the developer, your email address, message, and any attachments are processed to respond and resolve your request through the email provider. Please do not include clipboard history or sensitive content unless necessary. Correspondence is retained as needed to handle the request and follow-up; you can request deletion by email, subject to any applicable legal retention obligations.
This website and external services
This website does not use analytics scripts, advertising trackers, cookies, or browser storage. Its interactive preview uses sample data in memory; it never reads or writes your clipboard. Search queries in the preview are not submitted to a server.
The website is configured for hosting on Cloudflare Workers. When you visit the hosted site, Cloudflare processes request information such as IP address, requested URL, request time, and browser or network information to deliver and secure the pages. Cloudflare may process traffic information and provide service metrics or logs under its privacy policy. This site does not enable a client-side analytics beacon or custom application request logging. Hosting traffic information is separate from your clipboard history, which this website cannot access. Following an external link or contacting support involves the relevant service's own privacy practices. Apple may process App Store and system diagnostic information according to your Apple settings and Apple's privacy policy.
Changes and contact
This policy will be updated if ClipZen's data practices change, including before introducing cloud sync. The date above identifies the latest revision.
